Grade R

The Grade R year is very important as this journey prepares learners for Grade 1. Our Grade R teachers will stimulate learners physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially to reach their full potential. We follow the CAPS curriculum and enrich learners with the newly adopted E- Maths and E – Lit programmes. Early intervention will also be in place for learners who need a little bit of extra support before they start Grade 1.

Foundation Phase

Our teachers in the Foundation Phase have many cumulative years of experience in teaching our Grade 1 to Grade 3 learners with compassion, care and knowledge. The Foundation Phase is of the utmost importance as it lays the foundation for success in the Intermediate and Senior Phases. Learners will receive instruction in Languages, Mathematics and Life skills as set out in the CAPS curriculum.

We are also excited about the new Jolly Phonics programme, introduced by the WCED. Learning takes place through creative and stimulating activities while learners are encouraged to develop their own unique personalities and talents.

Intermediate and Senior Phase

The Intermediate and Senior Phase teachers teach specific subjects within the CAPS curriculum from Grades 4 to 7 to promote learners’ social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.

Our highly qualified and experienced teachers therefore have a very important role to play in guiding learning to continue embracing learning and finding their talents. We instill important study methods, good values and principles in a disciplined environment where learners can feel safe.

Prize giving and Prestige evening

Our annual Foundation Phase and Intermediate/Senior Phase Prize Giving is the opportunity where we celebrate the learner’s, dedication and hard work throughout the year. Parents are invited to celebrate with their children. This is also the opportunity where our Grade R learners have their first, very important graduation ceremony.

The culmination of our academic year is our Prestige Evening where we honour our top achievers on the sport field and in their respective grades. This prestigious event is an evening function where proud Parents, family members and staff members all convene to celebrate the announcement of our newly elected Student Council and Head Leaders as well as the winner of Parow West Primary’s most prestigious award, the True Parow-Wester of the year.

Mrs. Summers and Ms. Groenewald organise these events to ensure each child feels special and receives the recognition they deserve.
